River City Lacrosse Foundation

October, 2019

Founders of the River City Lacrosse Club have assumed the leadership of the Lighthouse Lacrosse Foundation, creating the River City Lacrosse Foundation, Inc.

River City Lacrosse Foundation will continue the mission of broadening the exposure of lacrosse in Jacksonville, Florida, and utilizing lacrosse as a tool to develop positive life skills and encourage academic achievement in youth of all economic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.

Founded in 2007 by Randy Evans, Charlie Tomm, Jeff Burns, and Matt Breuer, Lighthouse Lacrosse and its volunteer coaches eventually established and operated more than a dozen youth and high school programs in Duval County, including middle school teams and a spring league for high school athletes whose schools did not provide lacrosse. Many of these programs served inner-city neighborhoods and public schools that lacked the resources to establish similar programs on their own.

The original River City Lacrosse club was the brainchild of Michael Marrapese, a Butler University graduate and former captain of the Butler Bulldogs Division 1 lacrosse team, and now President of the new River City Lacrosse Foundation. “Our initial vision for the club was to create an effective network of lacrosse enthusiasts that would bring positive impact and change to our local lacrosse community and its members.  By assuming the reins of Lighthouse Lacrosse, we will be able to more effectively apply our strengths and resources of current and former lacrosse players, coaches, and fans to furthering the mission and success that Randy Evans and his co-founders established and achieved at Lighthouse Lacrosse. We envision a community of lacrosse enthusiasts – from business and community leaders and coaches, to current post graduate, collegiate, and high school players – who will have a continuing positive impact on our community at large by utilizing the sport of lacrosse to develop positive life skills and encourage academic achievement and success in Jacksonville’s younger generations.”

River City Lacrosse Foundation, Inc., is a Florida not-for-profit corporation and Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose mission is to broaden the exposure of lacrosse in Jacksonville, Florida, and utilize lacrosse as a tool to develop positive life skills and encourage academic achievement and success in youth of all economic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds. Through its athlete mentoring programs and “Lighthouse Lacrosse” youth activities, the Foundation empowers its scholar-athletes and volunteers to be successful students and develop into business and community leaders who will make positive contributions to the community and society.
